Why Is Foot Care So Important for Diabetics?
Diabetes can lead to poor blood circulation and nerve damage (neuropathy), especially in the feet. This makes it harder to feel injuries like cuts, blisters, or sores—which can go unnoticed and untreated, leading to infection.
Some of the risks include:
Foot ulcers that don't heal
Serious infections due to unnoticed injuries
Loss of sensation that prevents early detection
In extreme cases, amputation
Daily Diabetic Foot Care Routine
Here's what we recommend at CM Bespoke Care as part of a daily routine:
Inspect your feet daily
Look for blisters, cuts, redness, swelling, or changes in the skin or nails.Wash and dry your feet
Use warm (not hot) water and mild soap. Dry gently, especially between the toes.Moisturise
Apply lotion to prevent dry skin—but not between the toes.Trim nails carefully
Cut straight across and avoid digging into corners. Seek help if needed.Wear well-fitting footwear
Avoid walking barefoot. Always wear comfortable, protective shoes and clean socks.Check for proper circulation
Cold feet or changes in colour can signal poor blood flow.
