A message from CM Bespoke Care for our clients, families and care staff

With warmer weather and a possible heatwave approaching, it’s important that everyone takes extra care. Hot temperatures can affect anyone, but older adults, people living with long-term health conditions, and those receiving care at home can become unwell very quickly.

At CM Bespoke Care, we want to remind our clients, families and hardworking care staff to prioritise health and wellbeing during periods of extreme heat.

Tips for Clients & Loved Ones

Stay hydrated

Drink plenty of fluids throughout the day, even if you don’t feel thirsty. Water, squash, milk and diluted juices are good options. Try to avoid too much alcohol or caffeine, as these can contribute to dehydration.

Keep your home cool

  • Close curtains or blinds during the hottest part of the day
  • Open windows when temperatures drop in the evening
  • Use fans safely if available
  • Spend time in cooler rooms where possible

Dress appropriately

Wear loose, lightweight clothing and avoid heavy layers.

Avoid midday heat ☀️

If going outside, try to do so in the morning or later evening. Wear a hat and apply sun cream where needed.

Watch for signs of heat exhaustion

Symptoms can include:

  • Dizziness
  • Headaches
  • Feeling weak or tired
  • Nausea
  • Excessive sweating
  • Confusion

Seek medical advice if symptoms worsen or do not improve.

Medication awareness

Some medications can increase sensitivity to heat or dehydration. If unsure, speak to a pharmacist or healthcare professional.

Advice for Care Staff

Our carers continue to provide compassionate support whatever the weather, but please remember to care for yourselves too.

✔ Carry a water bottle and drink regularly
✔ Wear lightweight uniform layers where appropriate
✔ Take breaks in cooler environments when possible
✔ Protect yourself from the sun between calls
✔ Eat regularly to maintain energy levels
✔ Report any concerns about vulnerable clients showing signs of heat exhaustion

Checking hydration, room temperatures and general wellbeing during visits can make a huge difference.

Families: Extra Checks Matter ❤️

If you have an older relative, neighbour or friend living alone, a quick phone call or visit can help ensure they are coping with the warmer temperatures.

Small actions save lives.

At CM Bespoke Care, your safety and wellbeing remain our priority all year round.

Please take care of yourselves, check on others, and stay cool during the heatwave.

If you have concerns regarding a loved one receiving support, please contact CM Bespoke Care.

Because good care means looking after everyone — including ourselves.
